Valentine's Day Sexing, Pink Apricot Bloom Week 1 & 2 + Orange Barb Week 4

Well then, sexing is the identifying of the sex of a plant or animal - both of the Pink Apricot cannabis plants are in bloom stage and showing. There's a cross strain match up with Orange Barb in the works.

Pink Apricots in Bloom

After one week in bloom, the hydroponic Pink Apricot is showing male - there will be no buds from this cannabis plant, only pollen. Luckily the Pink Apricot in the soil turned out to be female last week, there will be buds from that one in a couple months.

Male Pink Apricot Management

You can see the flower nubs where the leaf branches meet the main stem. These little flowers eventually release pollen that will create a seed in female buds, when pollen meets a female pistil.

When ready, the little flower heads will extend from the plant and open to release pollen. I don't want all the female buds to have seeds, so I need to more easily manage the pollen content by trimming down the size of the plant.

With the bushy male Pink Apricot trimmed down to size, it will be much easier to watch for the remaining flowers bloom. When they do, I will carefully collect the pollen and save it in the freezer until it is needed for breeding - seed creation. After pollen collection, the plant will be removed.

Female Pink Apricot

With two weeks into bloom, the Pink Apricot that was planted in the soil is showing definite female, pistils have formed on all the branches.

Eight potential cola heads, rising to the upper canopy - three have already reached the top level.

In the Week 5 of veg stage, this plant was trained. The top was tied to the ground so each branch would grow upwards to similar heights - to provide a somewhat level canopy, to get the grow lights as close as possible.

You can see the female showing, the white and translucent pistils reach out from where the leaf branches meet the main stalk.

Each pistil has the potential to become a seed, if pollenated. If not pollenated, then there's no seed, just the THC and the tasty buds.

After entering bloom stage, most cannabis plants finish flowering after eight weeks - these buds are on the way, I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

The Vegetative Stage Tent

In the veg stage tent is the Orange Barb strain, from a feminized seed, on Week 4, and a 2 Week Pink Apricot clone - a clone of the female Pink Apricot that is in bloom. I have the lights on a timer for 18 hours On followed by 6 hours Off - this keeps the plants growing larger, and prevents them from going into bloom while they're in there.

Orange Barb is in Week 4 of veg stage and filling out nicely, she'll be a good cross strain matchup for the pollen from the Pink Apricot male - I'll sprinkle a little Pink Apricot love pollen on one of Orange Barb's buds. One of the female Pink Apricot buds will get some love too, I'll have some Pink Apricot seeds if I don't keep the Pink Apricot clones going. I've transplanted the little Pink Apricot clone to a larger container and have it off to the side of the bright lights, until it grows more roots - it will be at least six weeks until this clone will be ready for the bloom tent.

After the Valentine's Day cannabis sexing, it appears that there will be seeds in the future.

Have a great Day!

I like to do my clones in rapid rooters, that way I can monitor if roots come within 12-14 days.
