Weed and psychosis? Advice
Hey, this is my first post here on weedcash network. I just have a question for the community if anyone has personal experience with psychosis personally or with a family member, have you discontinued or encourage your loved one to discontinue use of Cannabis to relax, easy anxiety etc?
I have a friend who has been hospitalised with early psychosis (unspecified but indications that it could be schizophenia), panic, suicidal thoughts and I have a feeling she may self-medicate with Cannabis while on prescription medication. She had used Cannabis for the first time in 2021 for panic before being hospitalised but she has a history of trauma since childhood that more than explains the cause of her psychosis. I'm not for a second saying Cannabis caused or contributed to it.
I gather that if you have psychosis it isn't advisable to use Cannabis from a medical standpoint but in people's own personal experience how have you acted in a similar situation?
I will encourage her to follow the doctor's instructions to the letter obviously but it would be good to get personal or anecdotal experiences of the same if any of you guys have had a similar situation before.
Obviously, I don't wish mental health problems on anybody but schizophrenia has 0.5%-1% prevalence in the population so it could be possible someone here knows something.
Hope you guys have a good weekend :)
I got a buddy that has drug induced schizophrenia from meth.
He uses cannabis to medicate and it calms him down way better than any pill they shove down your throat.
He does not smoke high THC strains tho
Thank you for the response about your friend's experience. I'll keep that in mind if she insists she needs to use it.
No problem, Drs will or most will tell you cannabis is bad news but it can and does have many great benefits. as I said I bet she needs some low THC strains and to figure out how to deal with it. MY buddy is still not right but he is better than he was.
Thanks again. Yeah I understand what you mean, it will likely take her a good while to figure what works best. And doctors will be especially cautious about cannabis.
And agreed unfortunately schizophrenia as far as I can tell from online research isn't really curable, just treatable. It's a long journey ahead but in the short term if my friend stabilises and becomes less symptomatic we'll be more optimistic. One problem is she doesn't think she is sick (for want of a better word) so she hasn't yet come to terms with psychotic episodes and/or doesn't remember them. Hopefully the doctors can help her understand so that she can accept it and move forward to a less symptomatic life.
Some people just shouldn’t smoke cannabis. There are even people on this site that are the same.
Thank you very much. Yeah, I understand that perspective. I will encourage her to follow her doctor's instruction but I know at the same I won't be able to control her own decisions.
Yeah now that’s the delima. I think we have all been there. Hope it all works out for you, and who knows maybe the cannabis will help.
Thank you :)
I believe if you smoke less potent stuff like in thc you wont get the side effects as much
Thank you! I'll keep that in mind if she decides to use it
